Who We Are

Our Mission

At Destiny Church our mission is simple, and it is threefold:

  • Know God in a personal way

  • Learn to walk with Jesus as His disciples

  • Expand God’s kingdom by helping other become followers of Christ

Our History

Destiny Church began in 1984. Pastor Rich Vernon moved to Wahoo with his wife, Shelly, and their two oldest daughters, in 1984 and started an Assemblies of God church called Cathedral of Praise. The church gathered on the north side of the college campus (in the building that is now Makovica Physical Therapy).

In 2005, the direction of the church changed to become Non-Denominational. It wasn't too long after that that the church's name changed to Destiny Church, under People of Destiny Ministries, and they moved to the building they gather in today (South East of the college campus).

In 2014, People of Destiny Ministries purchased part of the college campus, which includes the Main Hub, East Hall and the gymnasium. Later the athletic field (behind the gymnasium) was also purchased for future parking.

In the fall of 2021, Richard Gervais became Destiny Church's pastor when Rich Vernon stepped down as its pastor to commit fully to his leadership position of People of Destiny Ministries, whose primary focus is restoring East Hall and the gymnasium.

“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them...and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always.”

– Jesus (Matthew 28:19-20)
